Description
This training is intended for adult students. High school students may be able to apply, as well.
As a medical assistant, you perform a variety of tasks that are critical to a medical team in many settings. These include taking patient vital signs, assisting with exams and procedures, giving injections and medications, performing EKG or heart monitoring, laboratory procedures, checking patients in and out, maintaining electronic health records (EHR), and more. Upon successful completion of the training and recommendation by instructors, students will be invited to sit for the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification exam through National Health Career Association. Some experience in the healthcare profession is preferred but not required.

Grants, scholarships, and other funding sources are available. Depending on program type and student eligibility, one or more tuition assistance options may apply. For example, VSAC Advancement Grant, VDOL Adult CTE Scholarship, Curtis Fund Credential of Value Scholarship, and other forms of state assistance.
